Wayne ZHUANG

Mr. Wayne Zhuang began his studies in International Economic Law (Maritime Law) at Shanghai Maritime Institute in 1997. He later pursued a Master’s degree in International Law at Shanghai Maritime University, where he remained as a lecturer and student counselor.

In 2011, Mr. Zhuang joined BIMCO’s Legal and Contractual Affairs Department at the association’s headquarters in Denmark, where he contributed extensively to the development, revision, and promotion of numerous BIMCO standard contracts and clauses. He was subsequently appointed General Manager for Greater China and Director of BIMCO Shanghai Centre. In 2016, he was promoted to General Manager for Asia, taking on full responsibility for BIMCO’s regional operations. In this role, he has worked to strengthen BIMCO’s engagement and cooperation with Asian stakeholders and actively foster constructive dialogue and collaboration between the international shipping industry, policymakers, and commercial interests—with a particular focus on safeguarding the interests of BIMCO’s Asian members and delivering effective services to them. Mr. Zhuang currently serves as BIMCO’s Regional General Manager for Asia Pacific.

A former maritime lawyer and university educator with eight years of experience in both fields, Mr. Zhuang holds a Master’s degree in Maritime Law and a Doctorate in International Law. He was the inaugural recipient of the “Shanghai International Shipping Center Construction Advanced Individual” award and named among the first “Top Ten Returnee Elites in Lujiazui.”

He currently serves as a deputy director to the 16th Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, a member of the 10th Council of the China Institute of Navigation, Vice President of the Shanghai Overseas Professionals Association, Adjunct Professor at Shanghai Maritime University, Part-time Professor at East China University of Political Science and Law, and an arbitrator at both the China Maritime Arbitration Commission and the Shanghai Arbitration Commission.
